WEBGECKO PRESS RELEASE

WebGecko Software Announces Public Beta of Active Page Generator™ 1.0

"Geckos eat bugs, they're nocturnal and it's bad karma to kill them!"
- John Crim, Chief Technology Officer

Active Page Generator 1.0 lets developers use VBScript, JScript, and COM to generate HTML, XML, ASP and other file formats!

SEATTLE, Wash. - May 7, 1999 - WebGecko Software LLC, a Seattle-based Web development tools Company, today announced the public beta of Active Page Generator 1.0.  The product is available for free download from http://www.webgecko.com/.

Active Page Generator™ (APGen™) is a new tool for developers and Web authors for automating content generation. APGen is the solution to many common problems that Web developers encounter in their efforts to develop powerful and robust Web applications.

Automate Web Site Development and Maintenance

Today’s Web authoring is similar to an application with no procedures:  The same or similar content appears in many places.  This model is a maintenance nightmare, resulting in a lot of wasted time and money and a loss in consistency and quality.  In the programming world, similar sections of code are moved into procedures, which makes coding faster and easier to maintain.  APGen advances Web site development to the level of modern programming, allowing you to take advantage of reuse, encapsulation, and automation.  Use APGen to automate Web site development, and experience easier site creation, maintenance and upgrades.

Improve the Performance of Active Server Pages (ASPs)

Many dynamic sites perform the same content generation work during repeated HTTP Requests. If the same content is being generated many times, then the Web server is doing too much work. The site will not scale well and individual page rendering will be slow.  APGen improves the performance of ASP by reducing the amount of work performed during each HTTP request.

Generate XML

APGen can be used to transform COM accessible data into XML, and to transform XML data into other formats.  As with HTML, generating XML on the Web server, and performing the same XML generation during many HTTP Requests, requires a lot of unnecessary work to be done by the Web server.  APGen does not require a Web server and allows you to render XML independent of HTTP Requests.

Publish Dynamic Data to Static Pages

APGen can be used to publish dynamic data to static pages on CDs, laptops, or other disconnectable devices.  Dynamic pages require a Web server, and often require a connection to a database.  A Web Server and a LAN connection are not always available.  Also, static pages perform better than dynamic pages due to reduced server load, zero execution time, better browser caching and better proxy caching.  APGen is the best solution for publishing dynamic data to static pages.

Active Page Generator 1.0 beta is available for free download at http://www.webgecko.com.
