WEBGECKO RELEASES ASPCACHE 1.1 SERVICE RELEASE 1
SEATTLE, Wash. - August 29, 2002 - WebGecko, a web application performance company,
today released ASPCache™ 1.1 Service Release 1 (SR1). SR1 is a service release to
ASPCache 1.1 - refinements and fixes have been made, but no
changes in functionality or new
functionality have been added since ASPCache 1.1. All web sites
that use ASPCache 1.1 will behave identically with ASPCache 1.1 SR1.
Free Upgrade for ASPCache 1.1 Customers
The upgrade to SR1 is free to all ASPCache 1.1 customers. ASPCache 1.1 customers
should use the download location shown on their invoice to download ASPCache 1.1 SR1.
For assistance, customers may contact
WebGecko Sales.
ASPCache 1.1 SR1 includes a new installer, with support for the Microsoft Windows Installer
(MSI) system. This new installer is more robust and manageable than our previous (Installshield)
installer. As part of the switch to MSI, customers should uninstall the Installshield version before
installing ASPCache 1.1 SR1.
Improvements in Service Release 1
The following improvements have been made in the SR1 release of ASPCache 1.1:
- The installer has been updated to use the Microsoft Windows Installer
(MSI) system. Windows Installer reduces the total cost of ownership (TCO) by
standardizing installation management and application configuration, and enables
administrative customization of installers. Specific benefits of using Windows
Installer with ASPCache include:
- If properly licensed, ASPCache can be automatically deployed to
a group of computers
- Improved installer robustness
- Easier to manage installations and upgrades across a domain or group of computers
- ASPCache 1.1 SR1 now meets all Microsoft Logo Requirements. ASPCache 1.1 SR1
has been independently tested to verify Logo compliance. Our inclusion in
the Logo Program is your assurance that:
- The product is proven stable on Windows NT, Windows 2000, and Windows XP
- The product can be easily installed and managed
- Your experience with the product will be consistent with expected
application behavior
- Improved robustness in low memory conditions. With thousands of successful
ASPCache deployments, ASPCache has proven extremely performant and reliable.
The only weakness was behavior in low memory conditions, after
all memory and swap file space were consumed. While ASPCache has several features
that help limit excessive memory consumption, ASPCache is designed to run well in
a high-stress, bottlenecked environment. With SR1, ASPCache uses a private heap to avoid
corruption from other misbehaving components, and is thoroughly reviewed and tested to ensure
"good" behavior when memory allocation fails. Though other parts of your
application will probably crash in low memory conditions, ASPCache 1.1 SR1 is proven reliable.
- New documentation. In response to common support requests, two new topics have been
added to the HTML Help:
- Best practices for data caching. This topic explains proven best practices
for implementing data caching in your ASP applications.
- Using ASPCache in VB COM components. This topic demonstrates how to
use ASPCache from code compiled into a VB DLL.
