WEBGECKO PRESS RELEASE

WebGecko Software Announces Support for the Microsoft .NET Framework

SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 11, 2000--WebGecko Software, a software and services company specializing in Web performance and scalability, today announced support for the Microsoft .NET Framework in their future product offerings and services.

WebGecko Software offers consulting services and Web development tools to solve the "hard problems" facing Web sites today.  WebGecko's Active Page Generator (APGen) product makes it easy to improve Web site performance, maintainability, and reliability.

The Microsoft .NET Framework and supporting technologies constitutes the future of software development on Windows platforms.  The Microsoft .NET Framework provides a multi-programming language environment that promises increased productivity for Web development, component development, and other software development.

"We are very excited about the Microsoft .NET Framework," said John Crim, CTO of WebGecko Software.  "Among the highlights: The C# programming language offers a friendlier, more productive environment for component programming than C++, but retains the power and familiar syntax of C++.  With Active Server Pages +, Web page development becomes object-oriented, with all the corresponding benefits: reuse, complexity hiding, and modularity.  Web pages are compiled and method calls are early bound, so dynamic Web page performance is significantly improved."

"Development tasks that used to take a day of work can be accomplished in a few hours.  The powerful and extensive component libraries in the Microsoft .NET Framework give a big boost in productivity."

Though the current version of Active Page Generator works well with ASP+, WebGecko is developing a new version of Active Page Generator for the Microsoft .NET Framework.  This version will leverage the Microsoft .NET Framework and integrate seamlessly with ASP+ and other Microsoft .NET Framework applications.

Crim adds, "The development and performance advantages of APGen will be enhanced with the Microsoft .NET Framework programming model.  Developers will be able to use any programming language plus the Microsoft .NET Framework to pre-render Web content, and Web content generation will be triggered from ASP+ or any other application.  As with the rest of the Microsoft .NET Framework, developers will see productivity gains and cleaner code in APGen for the Microsoft .NET Framework."

"Our focus is fast Web sites; ASP+ has a number of features that make Web pages more efficient, including compiled pages, caching, and early-bound method calls.  APGen for the Microsoft .NET Framework offers static page generation and two-phase content generation with ASP+.  This will round out developers' choices for Web page optimization.  Static pages, caching, and two-phase content generation all have their places in a Web developer's performance toolkit.  Our goal is to help Web developers determine the best technique(s) for a given situation, and make it easy to implement."

Microsoft Corp. is announcing further details about the Microsoft .NET Framework today.  WebGecko has been involved in reviewing, testing product compatibility, and providing feedback on the Microsoft .NET Framework.

"Microsoft is pleased to be working with WebGecko in delivering customers a comprehensive Web development environment," said John Montgomery, Group Product Manager for the Microsoft .NET Framework at Microsoft. "The combination of APGen and Microsoft .NET Framework will make it easy for developers to create high-performance Web applications and Web services."
